Appreciating the growing importance of technology, the Burton Awards decided to recognize products which advance the practice of law, are disrupting the market, produce material time-cost savings, and have a demonstrated impact.

The selection committee included as members and advisors Kim Rivera, President of Strategy and Business Management and Chief Legal Officer at HP, Harvey Anderson, Deputy General Counsel of HP, and Dr. Roland Vogl, Executive Director of the Stanford Program in Law, Science, and Technology.

In presenting the award, Anderson stated the reason for the new award, “We celebrate those who expose, showcase, and fuel an industry-wide call to action to apply new technologies and processes to advance the practice of law.” Commenting on the selection of LawGeex, Anderson remarked, “We sought to find the most innovative applications of technology in the areas of Computational Law and Policy in use today, that advance the practice of law in corporate, law firm, or non-profit sectors in meaningful and beneficial ways.”
